Grizzly Bear is an American indie rock band formed in Brooklyn, New York, in 2002. Known for their sophisticated arrangements and intricate vocal harmonies, the group blends elements of psychedelic pop, folk, and experimental rock using a diverse array of instruments, including woodwinds, banjo, and piano.
The project began as the solo endeavor of Edward Droste. In 2004, he released the debut album Horn of Plenty, which he had initially recorded at home for personal circulation. The record gained traction in the indie community and received a formal release with the assistance of drummer Christopher Bear. A year later, an expanded version featuring a bonus disc of remixes was issued to further support the release.
