History
Navraj Singh Goraya, known professionally as NAV, was born on November 3, 1989, in Toronto, Ontario, and grew up in the Rexdale neighborhood. He is of Punjabi Sikh heritage, with his parents originating from Punjab, India. Goraya's early exposure to music came through his mother purchasing him a boombox in third grade, and his uncle, a singer in Punjab, also introduced him to a recording studio.
During high school, Goraya began creating mash-ups and producing beats for local underground artists in Toronto, gaining traction on SoundCloud. He initially used Sony's ACID Pro software for his productions. Goraya attended Thistletown Collegiate Institute, requiring an extra year to complete his studies. He has spoken about experiencing frequent fights and suspensions during his high school years.
