AFI, originally A Fire Inside, is an American rock band formed in Ukiah, California, in 1991. The current lineup, established in 1998, features Davey Havok on lead vocals, Adam Carson on drums and backing vocals, Hunter Burgan on bass, backing vocals, and keyboards, and Jade Puget on guitar, backing vocals, and keyboards. Havok and Carson are the only original members remaining. While initially rooted in hardcore punk, AFI has since explored a diverse range of musical styles throughout their career.

AFI has released eleven studio albums, ten EPs, one live album, and one DVD. Their commercial breakthrough came with their fifth album, The Art of Drowning (2000), which reached number 174 on the Billboard 200. Mainstream success followed with their sixth album, Sing the Sorrow (2003). This album peaked at number five on the Billboard 200, spending 51 weeks on the chart. It was supported by popular singles "Girl's Not Grey" and "Silver and Cold," both reaching number seven on America's Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart in 2003. "The Leaving Song Pt. II" also charted at number 16. Sing the Sorrow was certified Platinum by the RIAA in 2006 and remains AFI's best-selling release, with over 1.26 million copies sold as of September 2009.
