Hatsune Miku (初音ミク) is a virtual idol and a vocal synthesizer software developed by Crypton Future Media. Released on August 31, 2007, she is the first installment in the Vocaloid Character Vocal Series. The name "Hatsune Miku" combines the Japanese words "hatsu" (初, first), "ne" (音, sound), and "miku" (未来, future), signifying "the first sound of the future."

Miku's voice is based on a sample of Japanese voice actress Saki Fujita. While the software is primarily tuned for producing J-pop songs commonly found in anime, it is versatile enough to create music across various genres.
