History
Los Bukis are one of the most influential groups in the history of Mexican romantic music. Founded in the 1970s in Ario de Rosales, Michoacán, the band was led by cousins Joel and Marco Antonio Solís. The name "Bukis" translates to "little kids" in a dialect native to the region.
Rise to Fame and Commercial Success
The group gained immediate attention with their debut single, "Falso Amor." This track established their signature sound—a blend of traditional Mexican elements with modern pop sensibilities—which resonated across Latin America. Marco Antonio Solís served as the primary songwriter and creative force, leading the group to unprecedented commercial success. At the height of their popularity, the band achieved a "diamond disc" certification after selling over one million records in a single year.
Marco Antonio Solís and Production Work
Beyond his work with Los Bukis, Marco Antonio Solís became a prolific producer and songwriter for other prominent Latin artists. His credits include significant projects for Marisela, Rocío Dúrcal, and María Sorté, further cementing his status as a titan of the Latin music industry.
Transition to Los Mismos
After decades of chart-topping hits and international tours, Marco Antonio Solís decided to embark on a solo career in the mid-1990s. Following his departure, a legal agreement was reached regarding the use of the band's name. While Marco Antonio was often referred to by the nickname "El Buki," both parties agreed to retire the name "Los Bukis" for future projects. The remaining members continued to perform and record under the name Los Mismos, a nod to their shared history as the original lineup.
