Jerry Fulton Cantrell Jr., born March 18, 1966, is a pivotal figure in American rock music, renowned as the founder, lead guitarist, co-lead vocalist, and primary songwriter for the influential band Alice in Chains. Emerging from Seattle's grunge scene in the early 1990s, Alice in Chains achieved international acclaim, distinguished by their unique vocal harmonies, particularly the interplay between Cantrell and original vocalist Layne Staley, and later with William DuVall.

Cantrell's vocal contributions to Alice in Chains expanded significantly with the 1992 EP Sap, where he began singing lead. Following the tragic passing of Layne Staley in 2002, Cantrell assumed the role of lead vocalist for the majority of Alice in Chains' subsequent albums. He fronted the band on releases such as Black Gives Way to Blue (2009), The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here (2013), and Rainier Fog (2018). In live performances, William DuVall harmonizes with Cantrell on new material and handles Staley's iconic vocal parts on older songs.
