History

Gracie Abrams is an American pop singer-songwriter who has emerged as one of the most prominent voices in contemporary indie-pop. Born on September 7, 1999, in Los Angeles, California, she is the daughter of filmmaker J.J. Abrams and producer Katie McGrath. Abrams first gained attention through lo-fi demos shared on SoundCloud and social media, establishing a reputation for vulnerable, diaristic songwriting.

Early Career and the minor EP

Abrams made her official debut in 2019 with the single "Mean It." This was followed by her first major project, the EP minor, released in July 2020. The record featured several of her most enduring tracks, including "21" and the platinum-certified "I miss you, I'm sorry." The EP showcased her ability to blend minimalist production with emotionally raw lyrics, earning her critical acclaim and a dedicated digital following.

Growth and Good Riddance

In late 2021, Abrams released her second EP, This Is What It Feels Like, led by the single "Feels Like." This project preceded a significant expansion of her profile in the mainstream music industry. She served as a special guest on Olivia Rodrigo’s SOUR Tour and was later selected as a primary opening act for Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour.

Her debut studio album, Good Riddance, was released on February 24, 2023. Produced by Aaron Dessner of The National, the album featured singles such as "Where do we go now?" and "Difficult." The collaboration with Dessner marked a shift toward a more atmospheric, folk-inflected pop sound, receiving praise for its mature songwriting and cohesive production.

Mainstream Success with The Secret of Us

Abrams reached new heights of commercial success in 2024 with her sophomore album, The Secret of Us. Released on June 21, the album debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200 and reached #1 on the UK Albums Chart. The lead single "Risk" and the synth-pop track "Close To You" helped propel the album's popularity, with "Close To You" becoming her first solo entry on the Billboard Hot 100. The album also featured "us.", a collaboration with Taylor Swift.

The Deluxe Edition and Chart Dominance

Following the album's initial release, Abrams embarked on the sold-out The Secret of Us Tour, supported by ROLE MODEL. The momentum continued with the release of the album's deluxe edition, which featured the breakout hit "That's So True." The song became a global viral success, reaching the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 and securing the #1 spot on the UK Singles Chart. During this period, she also contributed to the track "Sold Out" alongside Bon Iver and Aaron Dessner.
