Digital Underground emerged from Oakland, California, in 1987, establishing themselves as a pioneering force in the hip hop landscape. Led by the charismatic Shock G and his iconic alter-ego Humpty Hump, the group featured a rotating cast of talented musicians and producers, including DJ Fuze, Money B, Schmoovy Schmoov, and Chopmaster J, along with numerous collaborators over their career.

Their 1990 debut album, Sex Packets, catapulted them into the mainstream with the infectious single "The Humpty Dance," which became a commercial smash and helped the album achieve platinum status. The group also played a crucial role in launching the career of Tupac Shakur, who made his recording debut on their 1991 EP, This Is An EP Release, before embarking on his own legendary solo journey. Later that year, Digital Underground released Sons Of The P, a full-length album showcasing a deeper P-Funk influence and earning a gold certification, driven by the hit single "Kiss You Back."
