The Sonora Pine was an American indie rock band formed in New York City in 1994. The group was initially founded by Tara Jane O'Neil, who had recently relocated from Louisville after the dissolution of the math rock band Rodan. O'Neil, a vocalist and guitarist, also formed the rootsy indie pop duo Retsin around the same time.

O'Neil's primary collaborator in The Sonora Pine was guitarist Sean Meadows, formerly of Lungfish and a member of June of 44. The duo soon expanded their lineup with the addition of violinist Samara Lubelski. After performing a series of shows in New York, the band took a break to focus on other projects.
