Jay Wheeler, born Jose Angel Lopez Martinez in Puerto Rico, developed his musical foundation within the church. During his youth, he mastered the piano and began exploring music production, using his computer to create various beats and arrangements. Despite his early aptitude for music, Wheeler faced significant personal hurdles; experiences with bullying during his school years led to deep-seated insecurities and a reluctance to perform in public.

The trajectory of Wheeler's life changed after he experienced a difficult heartbreak. He channeled his emotions into writing his first breakup song, though he remained hesitant to share it. At the encouragement of a close friend, he eventually posted a video of himself performing the track online. The clip became an overnight viral hit, garnering over 500,000 views and giving him the confidence to enter the professional music industry.
