Biography Louis van Dijk

Arnold Ludwig ('Louis') van Dijk (born 27 November 1941 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands - died 12 April 2020 in Laren, The Netherlands) was perhaps the best, most highly regarded Dutch pianist of all time. His career in jazz and classical music spanned six decades.

Van Dijk studied solo and classical piano at the Amsterdam Conservatorium and became fascinated with jazz music while studying. He has performed and recorded with many greats, including Ann Burton, Rita Reys, Pim Jacobs, Jacques Schols, Oscar Peterson, Burt Bacharach]/artist], Bill Evans, Dizzy Gillespie, Thad Jones and Toots Thielemans (the list goes on an on), both individually and as part of the Louis van Dijk Trio.

Van Dijk's endless list of albums includes highly succesful solo albums such as Louis van Dijk Collages (1980) and Shangri-La (1987). He won four Dutch Edison Awards over the years. Thee platinum and nineteen gold discs were presented to him for his recorded work.

In his later years he often recorded and performed with Pim Jacobs and Pieter van Vollenhoven as the trio, Gevleugelde Vrienden.

Louis van Dijk was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2011 and suffered from Alzheimer's disease in his final years. He passed away, 78 years old, in April 2020.
